The Robin who emerged after the rape convinced herself that what she really wants is to marry Matthew. Matthew never married the real Robin the Robin who dreamed about doing investigative work. Strikes only part in this, is that he offers Robin the chance to realise her dream of becoming a detective. That does not do Robins character in the books justice at all! Their marriage fails, as i read it, because they are not suited at all. They seem to suggest that the trouble in Robin and Matthews relationship is mainly due to Robins attraction to Strike. This has irritated me to the point that i went looking for a thread like this! I don’t understand why the show is written like this. I felt surprised that a woman like her would do everything she did, when it shouldn’t have been surprising at all! But tv Sarah seems really decent and normal. The way she makes a point of being all over the other girls’ boyfriends, making passive aggressive comments, low key bullying. They didn’t show all the times Matthew didn’t make it home for dinner because of his job, but then would berate Robin for doing the same.Īnother thing that got on my nerves is that Sarah seems really normal! We all know an annoying bitch like Sarah. And when she lied about driving Strike to Devon, it seemed like she was just being selfish again, when really she lied because she knew there would be no reasoning with him. That made Robin look really immature and selfish. For example, when they had Robin decline the HR job without consulting Matthew.

Plus, his relationship with his former assistant is more fraught than it ever has been Robin is now invaluable to Strike in the business, but their personal relationship is much, much trickier than that.I was going to post saying exactly this! I also hated how they kind of made it seem like some of his behaviour was warranted, sort of. His newfound fame as a private eye means he can no longer operate behind the scenes as he once did. Trying to get to the bottom of Billy's story, Strike and Robin Ellacott set off on a twisting trail that leads them through the backstreets of London, into a secretive inner sanctum within Parliament, and to a beautiful but sinister manor house deep in the countryside.Īnd during this labyrinthine investigation, Strike's own life is far from straightforward. But before Strike can question him further, Billy bolts from his office in a panic. While Billy is obviously mentally distressed and cannot remember many concrete details, there is something sincere about him and his story. When a troubled young man named Billy asks Cormoran Strike to help him investigate a crime he witnessed as a child, the private eye is left deeply troubled.
